Healing with Spirit
Introduction
On your spiritual journey you will probably find you are in one of the following categories:
You need healing – physical, emotional, spiritual
You have the gift of healing and can help others
You both need healing and can heal others
To me healing is wonderful. I have been on the receiving end of healing given:
It helped me to deal with the onset of a particularly aggressive form of prostate cancer; a major operation to remove my prostrate; subsequent recovery; radiotherapy.
It has enabled me to deal with some traumatic emotional events in my life which had taken me towards rock bottom.
One popular misconception is that healing is always intended to make the person well. If someone is terminally ill, healing will not prevent their passing over or hold them back; but it will bring peace and calm and eases the process. If the reason for the illness is karmic in origin (ie it arises from the result of actions by the individual in a former life, for which they need to experience the effects of such an illness) then healing will help them understand, accept and deal with the illness.
I have also been fortunate to have the opportunity to study three forms of healing which enable me to give healing to others. My qualifications are in :-
Bowen Therapy (BTPA, Cert ECBS)
Reiki (Reiki Master)
Spiritual Healing (SPHA)
Having worked with computers and numbers most of my working life, I find tremendous satisfaction and fulfillment from giving healing to others. To me it is a true spiritual privilege to be able to enhance the life journey of others in this way.
Set out below are brief summaries of the nature of the healing forms I practice. If you wish to enquire about a treatment please email me.
BOWEN THERAPY
What is Bowen?
It is a non-invasive, holistic therapy consisting of a sequence of gentle moves over muscle and soft tissue, interspersed with periods of rest. Clients’ responses to treatment are consistently impressive, confirming the effectiveness of the therapy.
The practitioner uses thumbs or fingers to make a series of precise rolling-type moves over muscle. During the treatment, there are a series of short breaks where the patient is left resting to allow their body to respond to the gentle moves that have been performed. This rest period is an important part of the treatment and gives the body time to make subtle and fine adjustments which help to re-balance, relieve tension, and reduce pain. It is these features that make Bowen unique.
The Bowen Technique encourages re-alignment of the body; there is no manipulation of hard tissue and no force is used or needed. Treatment at regular intervals can help manage stress and encourage health maintenance. Bowen effectively encourages the body’s own healing mechanism to work more effectively and to deal with issues it may previously have ignored.
Who will benefit from Bowen?
Men, women and children of all ages will benefit. It can help to improve the quality of life for the terminally ill; address issues for those with longstanding problems which have failed to respond to other treatments; and help relieve infantile colic.
“Whenever I’ve had any back or neck problems, the Bowen Technique has always successfully put an end to them as well as aligning my body and increasing my energy. I can’t recommend it highly enough.”.
Jerome Flynn, actor
Bowen Technique treats the whole person
The Bowen Technique aims to balance the whole person, not just the symptoms. Common presentations include back and neck pain, knee problems, sports injuries, repetitive strain injury (RSI), frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and respiratory problems to name but a few. Practically any problem can potentially be addressed and some people use the Bowen Technique as a means of stress management and health maintenance, seeing their therapist regularly two to four times per year.
What does a treatment involve?
An appointment will take approximately 45 to 60 minutes and most of the work can be performed through light clothing (or directly on skin). Three to five treatments at weekly intervals are often sufficient to achieve lasting relief, although further treatments may be required, particularly if the client re-injures. To receive maximum benefit it is recommended that other physical therapies are not mixed with the Bowen Technique – for example reflexology, massage, physiotherapy, and chiropractic.
Where did it originate?
Thomas Ambrose Bowen of Geelong, Australia developed his own “technique” and had a thriving practice until he died in the 1980’s. His approach is now known throughout the world.

REIKI
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a healing system which is based on being attuned to the Universal Life Force Energy and learning how to direct this energy for the beneficial purposes of healing. It is a laying-on of hands touch healing system of ease and power.
Reiki is usually taught to practitioners in three stages or degrees and students at all stages can give Reiki healing. It is only practitioners who have been attuned as Reiki Masters who can attune others to become Reiki practitioners.
Self healing through Reiki is a vital component of the development of a Reiki healer. Reiki is not a religion, nor is it affiliated with any religion.
Why are there three stages of Reiki development?
The person who is attuned as a Reiki healer has had their body’s energy channels opened and cleared of obstructions by the Reiki attunements. The healer now not only receives an increase in their universal life energy (also known as Chi or Ki) but also becomes connected to the universal source.
Reiki 1 : healing is primarily for self-healing. The Reiki 1 healer can also do healing for someone else who is physically present. Reiki basic hand positions are taught.
Reiki 2 : this attunement noticeably increases the amount of healing energy and focuses on emotional, mental and karmic healing in the person who receives it. Reiki 2 practitioners learn distance healing methods and tools. Three Reiki symbols are introduced at Reiki 2.
Reiki 3 : is the teaching degree, also known as Master’s degree. A Reiki Master is simply one who has mastered a discipline and is able to teach – no ego or ownership is involved. This level involves spiritual level energy and achieves spiritual healing in the recipient. Two further Reiki symbols are taught. Reiki 3 attunement is intended to be for those who wish to teach others and make Reiki healing a major part of their lives.
Who will benefit from Reiki?
Reiki can be beneficial for anyone - man, woman or child of any age or condition. Reiki can also be applied to the healing of animals. Reiki has helped heal conditions such as grief, insomnia, lack of confidence, tinnitus, back pain, high blood pressure, constipation, candida, skin disorders, strokes, anxiety and stress, tension and worry, phobias and addictions.
Reiki treats the whole person
Reiki energy heals the whole person or animal. Although it can be specifically intended to deal with the main referring symptoms, Reiki energy will flow throughout the patient’s body and address any outstanding issues.
What does a treatment involve?
In a typical whole-body Reiki treatment, the Reiki practitioner instructs the patient to lie down, usually on a massage table, and relax. Loose, comfortable clothing is usually worn during the treatment. The practitioner might take a few moments to enter a calm or meditative state of mind and mentally prepare for the treatment, which is usually carried out without any unnecessary talking.
The treatment proceeds with the practitioner placing the hands on the recipient in various positions. However, practitioners may use a non-touching technique, where the hands are held a few centimetres away from the recipient's body for some or all of the positions. The hands are usually kept in a position for three to five minutes before moving to the next position. Overall, the hand positions usually give a general coverage of the head, the front and back of the torso, the knees, and feet. Between 12 and 20 positions are used, with the whole treatment lasting anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes.
Everyone experiences Reiki differently. Some feel a slight tingling or sensation of warmth; others just experience a deep relaxation. Some feel rejuvenated and energised. Some even fall asleep.
Where did it originate?
Reiki is a spiritual practice developed in 1922 by Japanese Budhist Mikao Usui. There are two main branches of Reiki, commonly referred to as Traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki.

SPIRITUAL HEALING
What is Spiritual Healing?
The channelling of healing energy from it’s spiritual source to someone who needs it is called spiritual healing. The channel is usually transferred to the patient through the healer’s hands (the hands do not need to be in direct contact with the patient’s body, but can be held a few inches away to avoid being invasive). The healing does not come from the healer, but through them.
The word “spiritual” refers to the divine nature of the energy, which healers agree comes from one external, invisible, intelligent source. The healing energy from this source is available to all. Spiritual healing is not part of, nor allied to, any particular religion. It is an experience involving an awareness and relationship with something that transcends your personal self as well as the human order of things.
Who will benefit?
Spiritual healing can be beneficial for anyone - man, woman or child of any age or condition.
Spiritual healing treats the whole person
Spiritual healing is when energy is transmitted to the person who needs it. The treatment works on the mind, body and spirit, which are seen as combined and which must harmonise for good health. Healers believe that whatever the problem – whether a broken limb or depression – the power of healing is needed in order to restore balance. Sickness often starts in the mind, or at the deeper level of the spirit, and it is often here that the healing begins.
Healers believe that everyone has a healing mechanism that flows as an energy force around the body. Mind and spirit keep them in running order. Unfortunately, stress, an inadequate diet, a negative attitude and other adverse factors can block our healing mechanism so that it does not function correctly and we get ill. Spiritual healing provides the energy needed to crank our own healing mechanism back into action. When a healer lays his hands on the patient, they act as a conductor or channel for the healing energy which they believe has the “intelligence” to go where it is needed.
Healers say that all of us have the power to heal, if we choose to develop it. Some, however, do seem to have a healing gift.
What does a treatment involve?
Typically, to begin the treatment the healer will attune with the healing energy. Then they may scan the body, with hands hovering just above the body. This scanning is to take a reading of the body’s energy levels and to locate areas of low or blocked energy where healing is needed. How long the healer spends on each area is determined by the needs of the patient. Generally the session lasts about an hour. All healers work in this way, but some employ additional healing tools such as dowsers, visualisation, pat lives therapy, aura cleansing, or cleansing the seven main chakra energy centres of the body.
During the treatment heat may be felt coming through the healer’s hands, although some people feel a draught, a tingling sensation, pins and needles, or a feeling of light-headedness. Afterwards most people say they feel relaxed and peaceful, although you might feel thirsty or sleepy. It is best to leave a few days or a week between sessions to give the healing time to work.
Absent healing may be sent to those unable to reach a healer to receive healing direct.
Where did it originate?
Spiritual healing is as old as time itself. Practised and recorded in history by all the great civilisations. Since the very beginning health has been important to mankind and healing applied to those in need by those with the ability to heal.
